A panel discussion titled “Grading America’s Education” was held at the Aspen Ideas Festival. The panel, moderated by Walter Isaacson, was sponsored by the Educational Testing Service. Topics included increasing the accountability, authority, and pay of both teachers and principals, lengthening the school day or year, emphasizing reading and math in the primary grades, experimenting with alternative methods such as vouchers, allocation of resources and measurements of results, school size, and racial and economic diversity.
