Marilyn Nelson read from her book of poetry A Wreath for Emmett Till, published by Houghton Mifflin. She talked about writing the book, the life of Emmett Till, and answered questions from members of the audience.

On August 28th, 1955 fourteen year-old Emmett Till was killed allegedly for whistling at a white woman outside a grocery store in Money, Mississippi. The book is a collection of poems created as a written memorial to the boy whose death, 50 years ago year, would later be seen as a catalyst for the Civil Rights movement. close
