Richard Haass talked about his book The Opportunity, published by PublicAffairs. He believed the United States is now in a position to change the world in a way in which millions of people worldwide could benefit. Mr. Haass wrote that this potential for change is feasible because of a new global climate in which damage is done through economic sanctions and the possibility for wars between the major powers is dwindling. Mr. Haass outlined how the U.S. can steer its foreign policy in ways that would gain world support without catering to the interests of others. He was interviewed by Robert Kagan. After his discussion, he responded to audience questions.
