Five authors debated the question “Are We Making the World Safe for Democracy?” Among the issues they addressed were U.S. foreign policy goals, the history of democratic institutions in the U.S., foreign perceptions of American politics and culture, and the U.S. role in the international community. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.


The panelist were Amy Goodman, author of The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them; David Rieff, author of At the Point of a Gun: Democratic Dreams and Armed Intervention; Charles Kesler, editor of Saving the Revolution: The Federalist Papers and the American Founding; and Sergio Ramirez, author of Hat Full of Tigers: Reflections on Art, Culture and Politics. The panel was moderated by Matthew Miller, author of The Two Percent Solution: Fixing America’s Problems in Ways Liberals and Conservatives Can Love.
