Sarah Vowell talked about her book Assassination Vacation, published by Simon and Schuster. In the book she examines the assassinations of American presidents Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, and William McKinley. For her research she visited the landmarks, museums, and locales surrounding each of the presidential assassinations which took her from Alaska to New York to Dry Tortugas Island (where several Lincoln conspirators were sentenced to prison) among other places. Along the way, the author wrote about how presidential assassinations had become big business for historical tourism, benefiting places like inns and shops in each of the towns. Following her remarks she answered questions from the audience. close
