Dexter Filkins was interviewed about his reporting in Iraq and U.S. military operations in the region. He also talked about the security situation in the country, the state of the Iraqi insurgency movement, threats to Western civilians, and American attitutides toward the war.
He had been the Baghdad Correspondent for the New York Times since October 2003. He also received the George Polk Award for War Reporting for his first-hand account of an eight-day attack on Iraqi insurgents in Fallujah in November 2004. He was expected to accept the award at a ceremony later in the month.
