Former Army Major McGowan talks about his book Major Conflict: One Gay Man’s Life in the Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell Military, published by Broadway. In his book he recounts his service in the U.S. Army and how the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy dealing with homosexuality in the military led to his retirement in 1998. In his remarks he talked about his professional experiences in the military, military personnel policies since the implementation of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy towards homosexual activity, and his life after military service. Following his remarks he answered questions from members of the audience.
