The morning session of State of the Black Union 2005 was titled “Road to Health.” Moderated by Tavis Smiley, experts discussed the health and the health care crisis in America, focusing on the disproportionate effects on the African-American community and individual steps towards better health. Topics included health care disparity between minority and white populations, under- and uninsured persons, education about preventive medical care, and individual self-knowledge about medications, health care, and diet.

Bishop Long gave the invocation. The event was held at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.
