A panel of experts discussed the context in which Social Security problems will be considered, and whether or not the Social Security system is in a crisis. Mr. Saving presented the trustees' view of the system’s solvency. Mr. Smetters argued that Social Security’s finances are worse than the trustees' projections. Mr. Tanner argues that solvency is not the only problem that Social Security faces, and Ms. MacGuineas will address the impact of Social Security finances on future generations and on younger Americans. After their presentations the panel members answered audience members' questions.
