Historian David Hackett Fischer participated in a three-hour discussion of his life and work. Short video clips were also shown. He spoke about how the meanings of liberty and freedom have changed throughout history. Mr. Fischer is a University Professor at Brandeis University, where he teaches history. He is the author of several books, including: Historians' Fallacies: Toward a Logic of Historical Thought (1970), Growing Old in America (1977), Albion’s Seed: Four British Folkways in America (1989), Paul Revere’s Ride (1994), The Great Wave: Price Movements in Modern History (1996), and Bound Away: Virginia and the Westward Movement (2000). His book Washington’s Crossing (2004) was just nominated for a National Book Award and his latest work, Liberty and Freedom: A Visual History of America’s Founding Ideas, will be published by Oxford University Press on October 28, 2004.
