During its convention entitled, “Empowerment '92: A Call to Action,” the National Rainbow Coalition held a forum focusing on economic policies directly affecting working Americans. Entitled, “Working People’s Economic Panel: Watering the Roots,” the panel discussion examined business policies intended to encourage reinvestment and recovery from the recession. Issues included the proposed North America Free Trade agreement, and the fast track legislative authority for the president that Congress recently extended through failure to enact legislation preventing the extension. Rep. Gephardt said the House vote on H.R. 1, the Civil Rights and Women’s Equity in Employment Act of 1991, held yesterday, indicated the desire of the House to improve the status of minorities in business affairs. He advocated continued progress in bringing minorities into the mainstream of economic affairs in the U.S.
