Professor Weatherford talked about his book Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World, published by Random House. In his biography on the 12th-century Mongolian emperor he argues that Genghis Khan was more than a conqueror, he was also a innovative leader who spread civil reforms throughout his acquired kingdom which spread about 12 million square miles from Siberia to Iraq. According to Professor Weatherford, the Khan dynasty spread ideas of religious freedom, diplomatic immunity, and free trade. After invading a territory they would set up public schools, international currency, postal systems, and introduce technologies including: the cannon, the compass, the abacus, and printing. After his presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
