Ms. Marlin talked about the Federal Aviation Administration plan permit privatization of air traffic control operations at some airports. Opponents of the plan, including Ms. Marlin, argued that it would put the jobs of federal air traffic controllers in jeopardy, and would compromise the safety and security of air travel. Supporters of the plan said that private air control towers provided the same services at significant cost savings over federal towers. Ms. Marlin responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. A video clip from the September 10 Washington Journal program with FAA Administrator Marion Blakey was shown.
