The book addresses the issues of multiracial relationships and explores the social context of black/white relationships. In the book, Mr. Kennedy traces the laws, customs, and myths that generally surround interracial relationships in America. The book begins by examining the 1952 Louisiana court battle of a black family who desperately wanted to adopt a biracial child. The book also covers the well-known interracial relationship of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings. Mr. Kennedy explores how interracial relationships have affected society and American culture.
