Devra Davis talked about her book When Smoke Ran Like Water: Tales of Environmental Deception and the Battle against Pollution, published by Basic Books. Dr. Davis grew up in Donora, Pennsylvania, a mill town that was the place of a deadly fog in 1948. In this book, the author looks at similar instances of significant pollution around the world in places such as London and the southeastern United States. Ms. Davis argues in her book that it is easier to conduct studies about pollution rather than to combat pollution, so this is the course we often take. After the presentation the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
