Joy Hakim talked about her book “Freedom: A History of US", published by Oxford University Press. This is a companion book for the eight-hour PBS miniseries "Freedom” which was based on her ten-volume series for young people, "A History of US". She writes about U.S. history from colonial times to the new millennium as the story of the march of liberty. It is her belief that freedom survives again and again, despite all the mistakes and tragic setbacks, and that in order to succeed in upholding this great ideal we must examine the past. close
