In a joint meeting of the Italian Parliament, the Pope talked about Italy’s Christian roots, the influence of Christian values on democracy and human rights, poverty, prison overcrowding, and the continuing conflict in the Middle East. This was the first time in history a pontiff addressed the Italian Parliament.
