The representatives debated the appropriation of additional funds for the Resolution Trust Corporation. H.R. 112 is a measure to amend legislation S. 2419 which would provide $30 billion in additional funds for supervision of the national savings and loan reform. In 1989, Pres. Bush asked for and received $50 billion from Congress to help clean up the savings and loan crisis. The Bush administration has made this additional request to help continue the process of closing, transferring and selling the deposits of 225 insolvent savings and loan institutions. Last week the Senate passed S. 419, but on Tuesday the House rejected a number of similar proposals. That led to a day-long round of negotiations prior to this evening debate.
