Senators spoke to reporters about efforts to create a Department of Homeland Security. At issue was the impasse over labor rights at the new department and the president’s authority to make personnel decisions. They also talked about a draft resolution authorizing force against Iraq. Following their remarks he answered questions from the reporters.
