Former Tennessee Governor Alexander announced that he would seek the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Fred Thompson. The Tennessee primary election is in April. He answered questions from members of the media. 

He served as U.S. Secretary of Education 1991-1993 and ran for president in 1996 and 2000.
