Ms. Bober talked about her book, Countdown to Independence: A Revolution of Ideas in England and Her American Colonies: 1760-1776, published by Atheneum Books. The book focuses on the period beginning with the ascendance of George III to the throne of Great Britain and ending with the approval of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress. She described the social and political developments in Britain and in the colonies that led to the revolution. The author reviewed her research methods for writing books that attempt to “portray history through the eyes of the people who lived it.” She described her use of original sources such as letters, diaries, and speeches and answered questions from the seventh grade students.
