Mr. Ball talked about his book, The Sweet Hell Inside: A Family History, published by William Morrow. Mr. Ball described the research that led to the discovery that a prominent white South Carolinian, William Harleston, had eight children with his former slave Kate Wilson. He explored the issues of mixed-race families in America in the Jazz Age as well as in the present era. After the presentation Mr. Ball answered questions from members of the audience. close
