He pledged to pursue terrorists around the world, called on Americans to be patient in what could turn out to be a protracted operation, demanded cooperation by Taliban leaders in Afghanistan, and praised the American people for their resilience in the wake of the attacks. Vice President Cheney and Secretary Thompson did not attend the session due to security concerns.
