A September 2000 study by the Federal Trade Commission found that entertainment companies were intentionally marketing adult-rated products to children. The FTC consequently called on the motion picture, music and electronic games industries to adopt voluntary uniform practices that expressly prohibit the marketing of adult products to children, and to enforce such policies with sanctions.
