Guests examined the history of the Plains Indian in the late-nineteenth century, the policy of Indian removal, and warfare between the U.S. and various tribes. Black Elk wrote Black Elk Speaks which describes Indian religion and culture as well as the struggles of tribes from 1863 to the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890.
The program, telecast from the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, contained portions of an interview with Black Elk’s great-granddaughter, a reenactment of the battle, and looked at several artifacts from the site.
