The annual J. Anthony Lukas Book Prizes for narrative nonfiction were presented. The winners then participated in a panel discussion on journalism and morality. Participants were David Nasaw, winner of the narrative nonfiction award for The Chief: The Life of William Randolph Hearst, published by Houghton Mifflin; Fred Anderson, winner of the history book award for Crucible of War: The Seven Years' War and the Fate of Empire in British North America, 1754-1766, published by Alfred A. Knopf ; and Max Holland, who was awarded the work in progress prize for A Need to Know: Inside the Warren Commission. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Lemann.
