The co-authors talked about their book, While America Sleeps: Self-Delusion, Military Weakness, and the Threat to Peace Today, published by St. Martin’s Press. The father-and-son team argues that the foreign and military policies of the United States today exhibit some ominous parallels to the policies pursued by Britain in the period between the two world wars. More specifically, they criticize recent U.S. policymakers for reducing the size of America’s military forces, and for failing to modernize the military by exploiting new technologies. They also argue that an effective policy of deterrence is linked to America’s capability of simultaneously fighting two major regional conflicts. After their presentations, the two authors answered questions from members of the audience. close
