Author Todd Tucker talked about his book Notre Dame vs. The Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan published by Loyola Press. He revisited the confrontation that took place on May 17, 1924, when the Indiana Chapter of the Klan held an anti-Catholic rally in South Bend, Indiana, the location of Notre Dame, one of the nation’s most prominent Catholic universities. Students confronted the Klansmen, and two days of rioting followed. The event marked a turning point for American Catholics during a period of anti-Catholic prejudice by Protestant Americans. Following his remarks, Mr. Tucker responded to audience questions. close
