The Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in the case of Metcalf v. Daley, which challenges a federal government decision to allow the Makah Indian tribe to hunt gray whales off the coast of Washington state. Prior to arguments, Ms. MacLean described the case via telephone.
