Panelists talked about primary elections including concerns about decreased voter turnout, voter cynicism and the impact of money and special interests. They described the roles political parties have played and could again play in ameliorating these problems. They talked about previous presidential primaries and the reasons for changes in primary dates including “front-loading.” They also discussed the requirements for a successful candidacy. After their prepared remarks they responded to questions from the audience.
