In a conference titled, “Church, State and the Next Century,” participants talked about the political influence of the religious right. Among the issues they addressed were the role of the religious right in the 2000 presidential elections, the role of the abortion issue in politics, and the willingness of both Republican and Democratic candidates to openly embrace religion. After their comments they answered questions from the audience.
