State Opening of Parliament

The ceremonial state opening of Parliament began with the Queen’s procession leaving Buckingham Palace, passing Whitehall Palace, and arriving at the Old Palace Yard of Westminster. The Queen donned her parliamentary robe and crown, ordered Black Rod to summon the members of the House of Commons, then delivered her annual speech to the members of Parliament. The speech traditionally outlined the legislative agenda of the government for the upcoming year. The narrative was provided by David Dimbleby who described the proceedings and who also interviewed several members of Parliament.
