Ms. Bao-Lord discussed her recent book, Legacies: A Chinese Mosaic, in which she examines the culture and history of her native China. In particular, she examines the effect of television on the Chinese. Ms. Bao-Lord left China to live in the United States when she was eight years old. She returned in 1985, when her husband, Winston Lord, was posted to Beijing as the U.S. ambassador to China. They remained there through spring 1989. During the weeks before the pro-democracy demonstrations, Ms. Bao-Lord was a consultant to CBS News. close
