Ms. Thompson talked about George Washington as a slave owner. She said that he was known for implementing changes in crops and techniques which would have challenged slaves. She also said that Washington altered his views on slavery during the revolution and that he had several discussions with abolitionists. He felt that emancipation, however, was a matter for the legislature although he freed his personal slaves upon his death. close
