Right Places, Right Times: Forty Years in Journalism Not Counting My Paper Route is the autobiography of former editor-in-chief of Time, Inc., Hedley Donovan. In this interview, he discussed his childhood, his education, and his experience as a Rhodes scholar. He traced his career steps as a reporter for the Washington Post and subsequently being selected as managing editor of Fortune magazine after WWII. Donovan discussed the contributions of Henry Luce to the world of journalism. He credited Luce, the founder of Time, Life, Fortune, and Sports Illustrated, for pioneering a broader scope of what is reported as news, and for developing the concept of the cover story. Also, Donovan discussed his experiences as editor-in-chief of Time, Inc., his position as a senior adviser to President Carter, and his impressions of world leaders he has met. close
