The first fifteen minutes featured Question Time with prime minister Margaret Thatcher. The Prime Minister was queried concerning homeownership and mortgage payments, and tourism, and the British economy. A major point of debate is the treatment of Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong. Both Opposition Leader Kinnock and Social Democrat Paddy Ashdown questioned the prime minister about the British role in dealing with the refugees. After the question time, Mrs. Thatcher delivered a statement about her recent meeting with the European Council. Debate ensued concerning the Common Market and its “1992” plan, and the possible reunification of Germany. close
