      <title>F-22 Raptor Oxygen Problems</title>
      <description>Witnesses testified on the problem of pilots becoming dizzy from oxygen deprivation while flying the Air Force supersonic F-22 Raptor aircraft. They talked about reports and consequences of respiratory and neurological problems experienced by pilots. They also talked about the results of a study by an independent review team from NASA which supported the Air Force's conclusions. The subcommittee debated whether the jet was suitable to fly, while witnesses, including Major General Charles Lyon, insisted that the $350 million jet was safe.</description>

On January 8, 2011, Representative Giffords was shot in the head at a public meeting with constituents in a Tucson supermarket parking lot. Members paid tribute to her service and career, and Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz read her resignation letter.
The House voted on Representative's final bill, H.R. 3801, that would impose tougher penalties on smugglers who use ultralight aircraft to illegally bring drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border.

      <description>Craig Fugate testified on reform efforts at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) since the passage of the 2006 Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act. In his testimony he said his agency would have had great difficulty responding to an unforeseen disaster at the end of the previous fiscal year because of a lack of funds. The FEMA budget became an issue during negotiations between Republicans and Democrats with a final resolution involving some last-minute maneuvering of FEMA disaster response funds.</description>
