Green Party Presidential Convention

The 2008 U.S. Green Party National Nominating Convention was held in the Chicago Symphony Center. 2004 Green Party Vice Presidential Nominee Patricia LaMarche introduced this year's vice presidential candidate, Rosa Clemente, and 2004
Presidential nominee David Cobb introduced the 2008 Presidential nominee, Cynthia McKinney.

Rosa Clemente played hip hop music at the beginning and end of her acceptance speech in which she thanked her family and many friends. Ms. Clemente said that Green Party and hip hop values intersect, as both amplify politics, love, and social justice through creative expression. She declared herself part of the hip hop movement "that uses the vote to bring what we need in public policy" and that hip hop theme is "so much more than music."

In her acceptance speech Cynthia McKinney decried corporate lobbyists' hold on Washington and said that the Green Party can become a major party by capturing 5% of the vote in the upcoming election. Ms. McKinney was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia from 1993-2003 and from 2005-2007.
