Book Discussion on [Blind Spot: When Journalists Don't Get Religion]

A panel discussed the book [Blind Spot: When Journalists Don't Get Religion], published by the Oxford University Press. The book argues that mainstream media often misses or misconstrues major stories about world affairs, public policy and culture because its members don't know the nuances of different religions and the impact of those nuances on daily life. The book is a survey of the relationship between religion, society, and politics. The book concludes that the media is largely secular with little interest or ability in understanding religious quarrels, and in will therefore consistently misrepresent political issues.

Book Discussion on [The Return of Anti-Semitism]

Mr. Schoenfeld talked about his book, [The Return of Anti-Semitism], published by Encounter Books. In the book, the author writes that much of the global opposition to America comes from groups that hold deeply anti-Semitic views. Mr. Schoenfeld contends that religious groups, such as Muslims, who he believes are the global leaders in anti-Semitism, have spread the sentiment outside of traditionally Islamic regions and into countries throughout Europe. Mr. Schoenfeld also argues that many recent acts of terrorism were motivated by a deep hatred of the Jewish people and those countries that have large Jewish populations and or positive relationships with Israel. Following prepared remarks, he responded to questions from the audience.
