      <description>On the third day of the convention themed "prosperity with a purpose," participants talked about maintaining a strong economy. Among the issues they discussed were tax relief, welfare reform, the new economy, and the role of education. Delegates also nominated Former Defense Secretary Cheney as their candidate for vice president. After Secretary Cheney accepted the nomination, he differentiated between President Clinton's governing style and the style that he and Governor Bush would bring to the White House, saying that they would govern with "conviction" rather than "calculation."</description>
