      <title>The Legacy of Medgar Evers</title>
      <description>Panelists talked about the life and legacy of Medgar Evers. Medgar Evers was a Mississippi field officer for the NAACP when he was gunned down in his driveway by a sniper on June 12, 1963. The Newseum is hosted this event to mark the 50th anniversary of his death. Panelists included Myrlie Evers, widow of Medgar Evers, Julian Bond, former chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Jerry Mitchell, an investigative reporter whose work helped convict segregationist Byron De La Beckwith in Evers' murder.</description>

      <title>Presidential Election News Coverage</title>
      <description>Judy Woodruff, Gwen Ifill, and Candy Crowley talked about their experiences covering presidential campaigns and the 2012 campaign. Topics included the importance to voters of the conventions, ads, and debates. Video clips from PBS were shown, and the panelists also responded to questions from members of the audience. Jim Duff moderated.
The previous week, Cancy Crowley became the first woman to moderate a presidential debate since 1992, although Gwen Ifill moderated the 2004 and 2008 vice-presidential debates as did Judy Woodruff in 1988. In 2012 Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff became the first all-female team to anchor a network's Republican and Democratic National Convention coverage.
"Campaign 2012 Coverage: Breaking New Ground" was a program of the Bipartisan Policy Center held in the Annenberg Theater of the Newseum.</description>

      <title>Free Speech and the First Amendment</title>
      <description>Leo Pfeiffer was interviewed about his video on free speech and the First Amendment, [Who Owns Free Speech]. The film was the middle school first prize winner of C-SPAN's StudentCam documentary contest. James Duff talked about the First Amendment, free speech issues, and the responsibilities of the press. Mr. Pfeiffer and Mr. Duff both responded to viewer phone calls and electronic communications.
C-SPAN Classroom's StudentCam video documentary contest was a national competition in which middle and high school students produced a documentary focusing on the significance of any provision of the U.S. Constitution.</description>

      <title>30th Anniversary of Justice O'Connor's Appointment</title>
      <description>Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan participated in a forum with former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Justice O'Connor's nomination and confirmation to the Court. Sandra Day O'Connor was nominated by President Ronald Reagan in 1981 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate 99 to 0. She retired from the Court January 31, 2006.
The justices talked about the evolution of the confirmation process since Justice O'Connor's nomination. their law careers, and civility among justices. They also shared funny anecdotes and their observations about serving on the Court. James Duff moderated this event in the Newseum's Annenberg Theater.</description>

      <title>Chief Justice Rehnquist Memorial Service</title>
      <description>A memorial service was held for Chief Justice William Rehnquist in the Upper Great Hall of the U.S. Supreme Court. He served as an associate justice from 1971 to 1986 and as chief justice from 1986 to 2005. His life and career were praised by speakers, including the U.S. Solicitor General, his son, and a number of his former staff members and clerks. William Rehnquist died in September 2005 from cancer.</description>

      <title>Continuity of Government after Attacks, Part 1</title>
      <description>At a meeting of the Continuity of Government Commission formed by the American Enterprise Institute and Brookings institution, participants talked about the continuity of government following a catastrophic event which might destroy much of the government. Among the issues they addressed were Constitutional provisions and lack of guidance for succession of power, the lessons learned from September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and potential methods to ensure continuity.
 
 Members of the commission are former members of Congress and government officials.</description>
