Among the topics addressed were the state of the airline industry, the potential impact on airline competition, consumer issues, and possible economic effects of the merger.</description>

      <title>Gubernatorial Campaign Issues</title>
      <description>The IAM president announced the release of poll results taken to determine voter priorities in upcoming gubernatorial contests in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Maryland. Mr. Fingerhut, whose company conducted the poll for the IAM, said the survey revealed broad support for activism by governors on economic issues ranging from gas prices to utility rates. After their remarks the two men responded to reporters' questions.
 
 The announcement took place on Labor Day weekend.</description>
