Mr. Costa discussed extensively the speaker's leadership during "fiscal cliff" negotiations and the difficulty of managing the tea party members of the Republican Party, and the previous week's House leadership election. Other topics included 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee and Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI).
"Fiscal cliff" referred to the impending tax increases and sequestration budget cuts at the end of 2012 if Congress failed to reach a new budget agreement.*
This program was part of a "Washington Journal" series highlighting recent magazine articles.</description>
