      <title>Battle of Fredericksburg</title>
      <description>Author and University of Alabama history professor George Rable talked about the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg. He placed the battle in the context of the war, and talked about its effects and impressions on soldiers, civilians, journalists and politicians of the day. Professor Rable was one of the speakers at a Battle of Fredericksburg 150th Anniversary event co-sponsored by the National Park Service, the Fredericksburg Area Museum, and the University of Mary Washington.</description>

      <title>Civil War Books Discussion</title>
      <description>As part of a University of Virginia sponsored conference on the Civil War battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, teaching faculty took part in a discussion of about 25 recently published Civil War books. The panelists have written many books on the subject, including Professor Robert K. Krick's [The Smoothbore Volley that Doomed the Confederacy], Professor Rable's [Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg!], Mr. Robert E. L. Krick's [40th Virginia Infantry], Mr. Bergen's [The Other Hero of Cedar Creek: The 'Not Specially Ambitious' Horatio G. Wright] and Professor Carmichael's [Lee's Young Artillerist]. The panel was moderated by Mr. Gallagher, author of many books, including [The Confederate War]. After the discussion, the panelists answered questions from members of the audience.
The 4th Annual University of Virginia Civil War Conference with Gary W. Gallagher "The Campaign and Battle of Fredericksburg" was held May 29 - June 2, 2002, at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [Writing the Civil War]</title>
      <description>The co-editors McPherson and Cooper moderated a panel discussion of their book, [Writing the Civil War: The Quest to Understand], published by University of South Carolina Press. The other panelists were all contributors to the volume who discussed various ways of writing the history of the Civil War. Each author summarized the themes addressed in his writings, such as
 politics, culture, slavery, and military tactics of the North and
 South. After their presentations they took questions from the
 audience.</description>
