      <title>Book Discussion on [The Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counterrevolution, 1980-1989]</title>
      <description>Steven Hayward talked about his book [The Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counterrevolution, 1980-1989] (Crown Forum; August 25, 2009). This second volume on the political career of President Ronald Reagan covers his presidency. Mr. Heyward recalls President Reagan's public and foreign policy decisions and the former presidents internal disputes with Republican party stalwarts as well as opposition from Democrats, and assesses how Reagan changed both parties. After his presentation he was joined in a discussion of Reagan's successes and failures as president and his efforts to restore the constitutional limits on American government.
The panelists also responded to questions from members of the audience. John Samples moderated. 
Steven Hayward is the author of several other books, including [Churchill on Leadership]. He is a senior fellow at the Pacific Research Institute and fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
James Mann is the author of [The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War] (Viking; March 9, 2009). William Niskanen is the author of [Reaganomics: An Insider's Account of the Policies and the People] (Oxford University Press, USA; June 2, 1988).

      <title>Book Discussion on [The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan]</title>
      <description>James Mann talked about [The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War] (Viking Adult; March 5, 2009). In the book he presents a history of Ronald Reagan's role in the ending of the Cold War. Mr. Mann examines previously undisclosed correspondences between Moscow and Washington, President Reagan's arguments with former president Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger regarding his diplomatic relations with Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, and the Berlin Wall speech. Mr. Mann argues that the end of the Cold War was a complex series of events that were in and out of President Reagan's control. Following his remarks he responded to questions from the audience.
 
 James Mann is the author of numerous books, including [The China Fantasy] and [Rise of the Vulcans]. He was formerly a reporter, foreign correspondent, and columnist for the [Los Angeles Times]. Mr. Mann is currently an author in residence at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.</description>

      <title>After Words with Bob Woodward</title>
      <description>Bob Woodward discussed his book [The Secret Man:  The Story of Watergate's Deep Throat], published by Simon and Schuster. He discussed how W. Mark Felt, former Assistant Director of the FBI, became his unnamed source during the [Washington's Post]'s coverage of the 1972 Watergate break-in. He was interviewed by James Mann, who in 1992 cited Mr. Felt as a possible suspect in an article about the identity of Deep Throat for the [Atlantic Monthly].
 
 Bob Woodward is an Assistant Managing Editor for the [Washington Post]. He shared a Pulitzer Prize in 1973 for the [Washington Post]'s coverage of the Watergate case. He is the author of several books including [Bush at War, Plan of Attack, The Choice, The Agenda: Inside the Clinton White House] and [All the President's Men].
 
 James Mann is currently senior writer in residence in the Center for Strategic and International Studies International Security Program. His books include [Beijing Jeep, About Face:  A History of America's Curious Relationship With China From Nixon to Clinton] and [Rise of the Vulcans:  The History of Bush's War Cabinet].</description>

      <description>A panel titled "U.S. and Iraq One Year Later:  Right to Get In?  Wrong to Get Out?" was held in Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. The panelists each in turn stated differing views about the war in Iraq in an opening statement and a rebuttal statement. Then Mr. Wasserman, the moderator, asked a question of each panelist before they made closing statements.
 
 Afterwards, outside the hall, Mr. Mann was interviewed about the debate. He responded to telephone calls from viewers.

      <description>Mr. Mann talked about his book, [Rise of the Vulcans: The History of Bush's War Cabinet], published by Viking Press. The author examined the president's selection of the military, diplomatic, and national security components of his cabinet. During the 2000 campaign, then Governor Bush, facing criticism regarding his lack of foreign policy experience, asserted that he would create a core team of foreign policy veterans, many of whom had served in previous administrations. Mr. Mann described the work, philosophies, and rise of National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vice President Richard Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz. After his presentation Mr. Mann answered audience members' questions.</description>
