After Words with Tony Zinni

Marine General Tony Zinni (Ret.) talked about the book he wrote with Tony Koltz, [Leading the Charge: Leadership Lessons from the Battlefield to the Boardroom] (Palgrave Macmillan; August 4, 2009). In the book they address what they regard as a profound leadership crisis in America as leaders in politics, the military, and business have failed to evolve with the times. They identify 11 core elements of managers, including developing a strong ethical sense and honing listening and decision-making skills. They use current events to demonstrate what it takes to shepherd nations, companies, and families in times of crisis as well as how to nurture and train future leaders. Topics of discussion included changes in the world order, Hurricane Katrina, Defense Secretary Rumseld, Iraq, and the financial crisis. The guest interviewer was Lieutenant General Julius Becton, Jr. (Ret.)
Retired General Tony Zinni, former head of CENTCOM and former special envoy to the Middle East, served in the Marines from 1965 to 2000. He is currently president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of BAE Systems, Inc.
Lieutenant General Julius Becton, Jr., former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and former superintendent of the Washington, D.C., public school system, served with the Army in World War II and the U.S. wars in Korea and Vietnam. He is the author of [Becton: Autobiography of a Soldier and Public Servant].
