      <title>Remembrance Ceremony</title>
      <description>A ceremony was held on the National Mall to remember those killed while fighting for the United States. Thousands of family members of those killed in Afghanistan and Iraq were joined by descendants of fallen troops of U.S. wars back to 1776.
 
 A Gold Medal of Remembrance was presented to the children of those killed in Afghanistan and Iraq and a roll call of the names was read. Family members from each of America's conflicts were introduced, including descendents of Nathan Hale from the Revolutionary War and Quentin Roosevelt from World War I.
 
 The ceremony included a military flyover, Presentation of the Colors by an honor guard, prayers, music, and the ringing of a replica of the Liberty Bell.</description>

The ceremony began with the Presentation of the Colors, the National Anthem and the invocation. Secretary Nicholson and other dignitaries talked about the history of the Department and its ongoing job of caring for U.S. military veterans and their widows and children. They also spoke about the wars in which the veterans fought and praised the service and sacrifices of all military personnel. The ceremony ended with a prayer.</description>

      <description>Secretary Nicholson and other officials testified about a recent security breach at the Department of Veterans Affairs in which computer records containing personal information of 26.5 million veterans were stolen from the home of a VA employee. Secretary Nicholson said the stolen information was not encrypted or "scrambled" and reiterated that there has been no indication that thieves were using the data to open credit card accounts, take out bank loans or engage in other forms of identity theft. Witnesses also testified about delays in notifying department officials, on-going problems with cybersecurity within the department, and proposed corrective measures.</description>

      <description>In an annual ceremony to commemorate Veterans Day Vice President Dick Cheney laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. He then delivered remarks at a remembrance ceremony at Memorial Amphitheatre in Arlington National Cemetery. In his remarks he thanked veterans for their loyal service and praised service members stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also singled out several members of the audience, including Emiliano Mercado del Toro, believed to be the oldest man in the world at 114.
 
 The event was hosted by Secretary of Veterans Affairs R. James Nicholson, American Legion National Commander Thomas Bock, and Maj. Gen. Guy C. Swan III, who is the commanding general of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region.</description>

Former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and WWII veteran, Gen. John Vessey, shared his thoughts on the "greatest generation." 
 
 The ceremony included the placing of wreaths, the playing of Taps, a parade of flags representing allies and former adversaries during WWII, and a presentation of colors with the national anthem and invocation. The United States Navy Band and the Sea Chanters provide musical interludes.</description>

Following the conclusion of the roll call vote, Governor Bush was officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate. After accepting the nomination Governor Bush he said that his campaign would seek to "renew America's purpose."  He said that his record as Texas governor proved he was poised to lead and that he would strive to empower all Americans.</description>
