Book Discussion on [The Ideas that Conquered the World]

Professor Mandelbaum talked about his book [The Ideas that Conquered the World: Peace, Democracy, and Free Markets in the Twenty-first Century], published by PublicAffairs. In the book, the author analyzes what he believes to be the predominant global ideas in the era after the Cold War. Mr. Mandelbaum cites Woodrow Wilson's Liberalism as the foundation on which these global ideals will exist. This notion called for a three-pronged approach, consisting of free market systems, the acknowledgement of democracy as the most effective government set-up, and a desire for peaceful co-existence among all nations. After his presentation, Mr. Klurfeld commented on the book. Then the author answered questions from members of the audience. Mr. Litwak moderated the event.
