      <title>Book Discussion on [The True Patriot]</title>
      <description>Eric Liu, former speechwriter for President Clinton, talked about his book, [The True Patriot], co-written with Nick Hanauer, published by Sasquatch Books. He contended that the definition of patriotism has been misappropriated by the right and must be redefined and accepted by the left. He presented several examples of what true patriotism means to them, which includes the ideas of "community above self" and "opportunity, with personal initiative." He responded to questions from audience members.</description>

      <title>Q&amp;A with Eric Liu</title>
      <description>Eric Liu was interviewed in Seattle, Wash., where he was the host [Seattle Voices], a local interview show on the Seattle Channel.
 
 His newest book was [Guiding Lights:  The People Who Lead Us Toward Our Purpose in Life], published by Random House. He is also the author of [The Accidental Asian:  Notes of a Native Speaker]. Mr. Liu served as a speechwriter for President Clinton and later as White House deputy domestic policy adviser. He is a fellow at the New America Foundation and teaches at the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Affairs.</description>

      <title>Voters and Generational Differences</title>
      <description>As part of the annual Milton Eisenhower Symposium on defining Generation X, Mr. Liu, a former Clinton speechwriter, discussed how young voters view the 1996 campaign. He disputed current thinking that members of Generation X are apathetic, saying that there are millions in this age group who are interested in politics.       <description>Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with newsmakers, journalists and legislators; and viewer comments by telephone, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Rappaport talked about current news headlines. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Liu and Mr. Cuo discussed current news topics and the presidential campaign. In the final segment, Mr. Miller and Mr. Roberts discussed whether enforcing child support laws is the best way to help women and children in poverty. Stricter child support law enforcement was a provision of the recently passed welfare reform legislation.</description>
