      <title>Saturday Book &amp; Author Luncheon</title>
      <description>A panel of authors talked about their forthcoming books. The panelists were Ken Auletta, author of [Googled: The End of the World as We Know It] (Penguin Press; November 3, 2009); Lorrie Moore, author of [A Gate at the Stairs: A Novel] (Knopf; September 8, 2009); Daniel Pink, author of [Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us] (Riverhead; December 29, 2009); and Mary Karr, author of [Lit: A Memoir] (Harper; November 3, 2009). Ken Auletta also served as the master of ceremonies.
 
 The Saturday book and author luncheon was a noon event at the annual BookExpo America, held in the Special Events Hall of the the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.
 
 At the beginning of the program, Tom Benton accepted the [Publishers Weekly]'s Sales Rep of the Year Award and Carol Besse and Michael Boggs of Carmichael's Bookstore in Louisville, Kentucky, accepted the [Publishers Weekly]'s Bookseller of the Year award. There were brief audio difficulties.</description>

      <title>Book Discussion on [The Tyranny of Dead Ideas]</title>
      <description>Matt Miller talked with with Daniel Pink about his book [The Tyranny of Dead Ideas: Letting Go of the Old Ways of Thinking to Unleash a New Prosperity] (Times Books; January 6, 2009). Mr. Miller contends that the American economy is stuck due to the continued use of dead ideas, such as "your company should take care of you," "your kids will earn more than you," and "schools are a local matter."  Mr. Miller presents what he considers the next set of "destined" ideas that he argues if heeded will nurture prosperity: "only government can save business, ""only higher taxes can save the economy," and "only business can save liberalism. He responded to questions from the audience following his remarks.
 
 Matt Miller is a columnist for [Fortune] magazine. He is also the host of the public radio program, "Left, Right and Center" and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. Mr. Miller is the author of [The Two Percent Solution: Fixing America's Problems in Ways Liberals and Conservatives Can Love].
 
 Daniel Pink is a former speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore and author of several books, including [The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You'll Ever Need].</description>
